Last Saturday, after the Gonzaga game, I went into the press room looking for some great one liners about the game. I was able to get a few from Coach Bennett and Daniel Kickert. It was a great game, even though the Gaels came out with the short end of the stick. We played some inspired basketball that gave the faithful hope for the rest of the conference season.

In spite of this performance, I met one of the rudest and pompous athletes in college basketball. His name is Adam Morrison. People who know me understand that I am a big Gonzaga fan. Aside from the Gaels, they are the team that I cheer for. Every time the Zags win, it brings pride to our conference. However, after hearing Morrison speak I can no longer root for them ever again. When asked if the Gael faithful had any effect on his game he responded, "They came to watch us, not their own team. They probably couldn't tell you their own starting lineup, but they could tell you ours. You only see "Beat the Zags" shirts once a year and that's the only time (when) this place is full. We were just looking for a win and then to get the hell out of there." I wonder if he even saw my red Gael Force shirt right in front of his face.

If he did speak along with his coach, they could have shown some class. He should not speak about things he does not know about. In the three games that the Gaels have played at home this season we have had excellent crowds. Students continue to come out and support their team. To say that we are fair weather fans is a slap in the face. I think he was just upset that John Winston, a little known transfer who just recently joined the team, did something no one else this season has been able to do: shut shut down. In the second half, he went cold and could do little to help his team.

Morrison may be an All-American in talent, however, he has a lot to learn about being a true professional. In my lifetime, I never have seen Michael Jordon or Joe Montana disparage an opponent like he did. That's because they are the best of the best. Despite their great talent they respect their opponent and the effort they give against them. Unlike Morrison they have a thing called CLASS. I guess the Jesuits in Spokane forgot to teach him that.

On behalf of the student body, Adam Morrison, I thank you for your comments. You have fueled the fire for our next meeting. Moreover, you have shown Saint Mary's and the rest of the West Coast Conference what type of people come out of the Gonzaga basketball program.
