Routine takes a sharp turn in 16 Blocks. Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is an unwilling cop that must protect murder witness Eddie Bunker (Mos Def). Director Richard Donner (Goonies, Maverick) and actor Frank Morse bolster the film with solid performances. Hip-hop artist turned actor Mos Def steals the film with his hopeful convict character. The downtrodden and rotund character of Mosley is a perfect contrast to Bunker. The film does not deliver anything new in terms of thrillers; however, it signals the arrival of Mos Def as a talented actor. Willis and Mos Def are a winning combination in this enjoyable film.
