The New Kids Reunion Tour is highly anticipated across the nation and Saint Mary's was lucky enough to get in the action.
"We almost didn't get to schedule them. It was a choice between them and Maroon 5," said a Program Board President Luke Kircher, '06.
With the additional $13,001 that Program Board received to bring in a more widely-appreciated group, they expressed that they were very fortunate to get a hold of the New Kids on the Block, "We were really hoping for the New Kids," said Kircher, "They would definitely appeal more to the general student population than Maroon 5-I mean we all grew up with the New Kids right?"
Jordan Knight, who has been enjoying a quiet solo singing career was available for comment: "After my 2004 remix album, Jordan Knight Performs New Kids on the Block-The Remix Album, it got me to reminisce, so I called up the old gang after my third album, released last year, and asked them if they wanted to get back together."
And that they did, putting together some new pop jams. The band has decided to start off small this time, like many alternative artists-colleges, coffee shops, birthday parties and other small shindigs.
"I am totally excited that the New Kids are coming to Gaelstock," said Rodney Alcantara '09, "I just saw them a couple of weeks ago, back home in Compton-it was amazing."
Opening the show will be a surprise, although there is much speculation that it will be either Jack Johnson or Elvis Presley who has recently come out of hiding.
"A friend of mine is on Program Board and she definitely told me that Jack Johnson and Curious George are coming to Gaelstock. Oh my gosh, Jack Johnson is soooo hot!!" said Tina Sanchez, '07.
"When we heard that Elvis was alive again, we couldn't wait for him to go on tour. I heard that he'll be coming to Gaelstock," said Tiffany Mathis '08, a Saint Mary's student and star member of the Elvis Presley Fan Club.
"Whoever it will be that's opening the show," said Shannon Driskell '07, "This will definitely be the best Gaelstock ever. I can't believe that the New Kids on the Block are actually back together again and that they're coming here."
