Okay you lucky Gaels and Gael-ettes it's time to hear about the underappreciated, yet ever present sports viewing opportunity that I like to call "Sports Day." Now there is no actual Webster's dictionary term for "Sports Day." Instead it is an underground phenomenon that isn't quite, but should be, sweeping the Saint Mary's campus. In my infinite wisdom I have taken the time to define the term for everyone who has not yet had the chance to indulge. I would say that a "Sports Day" is as follows: a weekend day, that is comprised of the avid viewing of multiple sports at multiple times throughout the day.

A Sports Day for me usually starts off at around 10 a.m., which I will have you know is something that only a truly dedicated sports fan can do. I mean, who wants to drag themselves out of bed on a Saturday morning after a night filled with sake bombs, rugby partying and the occasional trip to Miramonte High? Not too many people, that is for sure. Appropriate attire is also important. I usually go with a t-shirt and sweats, but if I'm feeling really crazy I may even throw on some jeans.

A normal Sports Day is always planned out ahead of time. The night, before I talk to all my super-cool athlete friends and track down all the game times so that I can properly synchronize my schedule to get the full sports viewing experience. For example, a normal Sports Day has at least 3-4 game options at a time. You can have tennis in the morning, followed by softball, only to be broken up by a lacrosse game on the intramural field. You can cap it all off with a baseball double-header.

Yeah I know it sounds overwhelming, but it is possible if your scheduling is precise and you have the heart and stomach to bounce around from sporting event to sporting event. You have to be stretched and ready because it's fast paced and crazy, and it doesn't stop until the last pitch is pitched or the last lacrosse ball is lacrossed. Sometimes you have all the sporting events going on simultaneously and have to run from place to place. It's like tennis, lacrosse, lacrosse, softball, tennis, baseball, soccer, soccer, soccer, lacrosse, AHHH!

Yes, it sounds a little scary, but you should also be excited, damn it. You are a Gael and if you truly want to know what it's like to experience Gael sports you will make it a point to experience a Sports Day once in your SMC career. Live the dream, boys and girls, live the dream.
