Julian Tizot '05 has played well in his fifth season with the Gaels, playing in both the first and second singles spot and maintaining a record of 7-8.

Home court advantage was about the only thing that the Gaels had on their side Friday as the Gaels recieved a heart-breaking 4-3 loss at the hands of the San Francisco Dons.

SMC opened the match well winning the doubles point 2-1. In singles, freshman Alp Ozpinar and Achim Christner recorded wins for Saint Mary's.

After losing a close match, the Gaels rebounded on Saturday, sweeping the Gonzaga Bulldogs 4-0. Saint Mary's played almost perfect tennis, as they did not give up a set in their four match win.

In their final match of the weekend against Loyola Marymount the Gaels played well, beating Loyola 4-3 and finishing fifth in the West Coast Conference.

When asked about the season Head Coach Michael Wayman said "it was a good year, a solid year. The conference was tough."

Injuries also took their toll on Saint Mary's this season with two (Andre Sion '06 and Julian Tizot '05) of their top six players out for extended stints of the season.

"We did well with Andre Sion out," said Coach Wayman.

Following the tournament, the Gaels finished with a conference record of 5-4 with wins against Loyola, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, and San Francisco.

Next season, Coach Wayman and company look to build on this year's success. Although Gaels lose three of their top six, they return Adam Fauvre '07 and their tandem of freshmen phenoms Alp Ozpinar and Achim Christner.
