If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then the Murder Mystery Party is for you.
This event, hosted by Program Board, will take place on Thursday, October 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Its location will be Hagerty Lounge, on the first floor of De La Salle Hall.
This shindig will give students a chance to put on their glad rags (a.k.a. fancy clothes) as they take on the roles of characters straight out of the 1920s. Participants receive a character assignment when they register. They will become gumshoes, working to solve a murder by talking to other participants and using a list of clues.
The night of intrigue and suspicion provides an opportunity for college students to play dress-up for an evening. They can leave their textbooks in their rooms and take a trip back to the glamour of the Roaring Twenties, an era of bootlegging and the Charleston.
The party first took place last year. The theme then, instead of this year's gangsters and flappers, was literary characters.
"I think the event was a huge success last year," said Amy Chambellan '07, the vice president of the progressive committee of Program Board and the party's organizer.
She hopes for about 50 amateur sleuths to come try to solve the case this year. They will be able to meet new people as they interrogate their fellow partygoers.
The party costs $10 to attend. The loot goes toward catering costs, as the celebration includes dinner.
The small population of Saint Mary's makes this event possible.
"[It's] something that's a little bit random, that people might not get on every college campus, but because we're small we can pull it off," Chambellan stated.
She encourages everyone to attend the bash.
"I think it's just something that most people have never done before, and I think it would be a great experience, just completely out of the ordinary," she remarked.
It also keeps with the spirit of fun and fright that goes along with this time of year.
"It's really a nontraditional approach to celebrating Halloween," she said.
So if you need more excitement in your life, head over to the Murder Mystery Party for intrigue and a taste of the 1920s. Register by today if you want to take part; just call x4146.
