The women's soccer team had a tough match against conference rivals, the Pepperdine Waves.
The score was tied 1-1 when Pepperdine's Kelly Reilly scored a goal with 4:11 left in the game to wash away the Gaels for good.
Pepperdine controlled the flow of the game for most of the first half, outshooting the Gaels 14-4 in the first 45 minutes of play.
In the 31st minute of action Amanda Rupp scored a goal off a pass from Emily Wynne just outside the penalty box. The goal marked Rupp's third of the season, taking the Waves to a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Gaels came back from the half firing only 49 seconds into the second half, tying the game when freshman Kira Copinga tallied her first collegiate goal.
Copinga's goal was the result of a Ashley Nied cross from the right sideline. Copinga headed the cross from seven yards out into the back of the net.
Both teams upped their defense in the second half with the Gaels taking three shots and holding the Waves to just four.
Saint Mary's goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich finished the game with six saves on the Waves' 18 shots. Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte earned the win after allowing one goal and posting three saves against seven shots by the Gaels.
On Sunday, the Gaels took on the Loyola Marymount Lions in a tough double-overtime match.
The Gaels' defense held the Lions to just three shots on goal in regulation time.
Sophomore defender, Amy Massey held the back line for the Gaels, stopping every counterattack from the Lions.
Offensively, the Gaels had opportunities to break the tie.
In fact, in the second half, the Gaels put pressure on the Lions, taking three shots in the 64th minute after being awarded a corner kick. However, the Gaels could not finish before the ball was cleared by the Lion defense.
In the final minute of play, the Gaels tried to score, but attempts by senior forward McKenna Belzer were blocked and other attempts by sophomore Nikki Shrey were wide.
This game was Zenovich's second shutout of the season. Zenovich recorded four saves in the draw against the Lions.
