The Gaels had another successful weekend, going 3-2 over the weekend, including wins against Georgia Southern and Northern Colorado.
Saint Mary's started their week last Tuesday against Eastern Illinois and dropped the game 3-1. The Gaels out hit the Panthers six to five but could not push enough runs across the plate.
Sophomore Marlena Green took the loss as she pitched two innings and allowed two runs in the second inning. Senior Kate Albaugh pitched the rest of the way, allowing one run in five innings.
Junior Bronwyn Russell led the Gaels going 2-3 with an RBI in the game.
In the game against Georgia Southern last Wednesday, junior Megan Galloway went the distance, allowing one run in a 7-1 win.
The offense was led by junior Molly Bergeson as she went 2-3 with two RBIs. Freshman catcher Jenna Smith chipped in going 2-2 with an RBI.
Saint Mary's went for two three run rallies in the second and again in the fifth inning.
Senior Chelsea Loftis was lit up for seven runs in the first two innings in a 10-3 loss to Purdue on Thursday. Bergeson was also tagged for six runs, three earned, in three innings. She also had three hits in the game.
The only offense was a three-run double in the fifth inning by sophomore pinch hitter Sadie Dolcini.
The last two games of the weekend was a double-header against the Northern Colorado Bears.
Saint Mary's took the first game 8-1 on the power of 16 hits. Russell, Smith, and Bergeson all had three hits in the win.
Senior Lauren Gardner pitched a complete game allowing one unearned run.
The Gaels led 2-1 going into the fifth inning and put the game away with back-to-back three run innings.
In their final game of the weekend, the Gaels punched out 16 more hits in a 9-2 win, solidifying their two-game sweep over the Bears.
The Gaels jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the third inning and Galloway put the game away pitching seven innings, allowing two runs while striking out five.
After the weekend, Saint Mary's is now 13-14 overall and they will return to action on Thursday when they play University of Pacific.
