Br. Sanderl nominated as Dean of Campus Ministry

"I see this as a continuation of what I've been doing: serving the Saint Mary's community, and also expressing the Lasallian Mission. Just like a dean is responsible for his needs, my leadership is one rooted in service by being able to respond to the needs of this campus," said Sanderl.
Sanderl graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1996 with a major in religious studies. He continued his education by receiving a doctorate from the University of San Francisco and has been serving the Saint Mary's College community since 2004.
"We have a lot of good programs here at Saint Mary's College that express the Lasallian mission, and we are looking to capitalize on what already exists. I want student input to be the process of the Lasallian mission, not an aspect or a part. We need to make this vision a reality with a real sense of follow through," said Sanderl.
The Dean of Campus Ministry will develop current programs such as retreats, liturgies, and social action. Sanderl said, "My job is to strengthen current programs and promote the Lasallian heritage and values across the campus. Results of our efforts will include participants on some level by all members of our community, residential students, commuter students, graduate students, perspective students, families, faculty, and staff. Our programs will bring forth the scholarship of our faculty, the intellect of our students, and the expression of the Lasallian mission. We must ask ourselves; 'what currently isn't being done?' And we must be innovative in how we answer."
Fulfilling the position of Dean of Campus Ministry means being attentive to student input and responding with creative and innovative answers. Sanderl said, "There will be innovation within the next couple of years that will create a much more inclusive community. We will encourage energy, creativity, and partnership in our campus that will flourish."
This accreditation in the Campus Ministry is a remarkable moment in the history of Saint Mary's College. By electing a new dean, Saint Mary's College has established an office that will be fulfilled for generations to come.
Sanderl possesses leadership that spreads throughout the campus. Beyond his own credibility and experience, he is known to be passionate and enthusiastic. He gives the Campus Ministry an approachable identity, and his friendly nature spreads throughout Saint Mary's College.
"I am excited by the potential that this new position will bring in my commitment to bringing my zeal to this opportunity," he said.
