In Saturday's double-header, the Lions dominated, as they beat the Gaels 8-0 in both games.
Junior Megan Galloway got the start for the Gaels in game one. The Lions scored early in the first. Galloway lost the lead off batter to a walk, before a two-out double knocked in the first run for the Lions.
Sophomore Dolcini Sadie recorded the Gaels' lone hit to start the second inning, but a pop-up and a double-play ended the Gaels' second inning. The Gaels managed to get only one more runner on base the whole game.
Galloway kept the Gaels in the game, shutting down the Lions' offense for the next three innings, giving up four hits. However, the Lions knocked her out of the game after a three-run fifth inning. The Lions knocked all three runs with two outs and the big blow coming from a two-run homerun.
The game was called after six innings, as the Lions scored four more to end the game.
Game two was a little better for the Gaels' offense, but not by much, as they managed three hits and stranded a runner on third base. Junior Bronwyn Russell recorded two of the hits.
Senior Kate Albaugh got the call on the mound for the Gaels. The Lions scored one run in the second off a solo homerun, but Albaugh held the Lions in check until the fifth inning. Through four innings, Albaugh allowed only two hits, including the second inning homerun.
However, like in the first game, the Lions jumped for three runs in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0. Junior Chelsea Loftis came in for the sixth inning. After getting two of the first three batters out, Loftis allowed four runs, with a bases-loaded double to end the game.
Sophomore Marlena Green started game three of the four game set for the Gaels. Green went four and a third innings, allowing only one earned run.
Albaugh came in relief in the fifth, after Green allowed runners to reach first and second. Albaugh shut down the Lions until the sixth inning, when the Lions jumped for two more on a two-run shot to push the lead to three.
Senior Lauren Mello responded for the Gaels on offense, hitting a solo-shot to give the Gaels' their first run of the series.
Unfortunately, that would be all the offense the Gaels would put together, as they ended up falling 3-1.
With the sweep, the Gaels' record falls to 8-8 in conference and 23-33 overall.
The Gaels will play Sacramento State away next weekend in a four-game series that will determine second place in the PCSC.
