P.J. Hainley '08 scored the first goal for the Gaels against the UC Davis Aggies. She scored two more in that game, but unfortunately, it was not enough to advance the Gaels further in the MPSF conference playoffs.

The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team lost both of its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament games this past weekend, the first to the Stanford Cardinal 20-7 on Friday and the second 12-10 to the UC Davis Aggies on Saturday at the Aggie Stadium.

Sophomore P.J. Hainley and junior Jen Utley had three goals apiece for the Gaels in the loss to the Cardinal. It was Utley's second hat trick of the season.

Stanford scored eight of the game's first nine goals, taking an 8-1 lead at the 13:16 mark. After Utley scored her first goal of the game, Stanford scored three straight goals to take an 11-2 lead at the 8:36 mark in the first half.

The Gaels' final goal of the half came with 6:44 left in the half by Hainley.

The Cardinal opened the second half with two straight goals to go up 15-3 almost three minutes into the second half. The Gaels could not convert for a comeback.

The final goal of the day came with four seconds left by Hainley on a free position shot, but it was not enough.

After the loss, the Gaels looked to recover against the UC Davis.

The game proved a tougher and closer one for the Gaels, despite it ending in a 12-10 loss.

The highlight of the day came from senior Jackie Spencer, who finished off her career strong with a career-high six goals to lead the Gaels, becoming the third Saint Mary's player with 100 career goals.

The game started off with a goal from Hainley. However, seven minutes into the game, the Aggies took a 3-1 lead.

At halftime, the Aggies were up 5-4.

In the second half, the Aggies struck first and laid in a goal in just three minutes.

Saint Mary's responded with Hainley's third goal of the game.

After a few more plays, the Gaels managed to rack up three straight goals to take an 8-7 lead with 17:27 left in the game. However, the Aggies came back to score two goals to take the lead once again.

Sixteen seconds later, Spencer scored her 100th career goal to tie the score at 10. UC Davis scored the game-winning goal on a free position shot with 4:24 left to play. UC Davis senior Alden Monger provided the Aggies insurance with a goal with 15 seconds left.

The 12-10 loss to UC Davis gave the Gaels a sixth place finish in the tournament, dropping their record to 3-14 overall while the Aggies improved to 9-9 overall.
