Much can happen in "a blink of an eye" as it has for me and my time spent here.

Unlike most transfer students who are usually sophomores or juniors, I am a transfer senior and my one and only year here at Saint Mary's is winding down to its final days.

When I think "Where has the time gone?" I am reminded of the request of the early Christian disciples to Christ on the Road to Emmaus, Mane nobiscum Domine" ("Stay with us, Lord").

Once one gets fond of a place it's always difficult detaching from an environment and the temptation is to stay.

We've come to the end of another school year, which for me has been a time of reflection and growth.

Saint Mary's provides that element to seek for the higher Truths in life, if you know the right place to look.

While Saint Mary's strives for higher learning, like any other institution, it has its strengths and its weaknesses-all components that make Saint Mary's what it is today.

I arrived thinking that I'd be in and out in a year and fade into the background of the college life; little did I know that within the context of that year many connections would be made, many lives touching mine, and many opportunities of learning and growth.

Various moments at Saint Mary's have played pivotal roles in my formation ranging from the esteemed faculty-(especially the Philosophy Department)-to the dedicated students (outside by the fountain), from crunch time study sessions in the library to the parties both on and off campus, from committed brothers like Br. Richard in the library to the hospitable workers like Jorge in Oliver Hall, from the inquisitive members of The Collegian to the Ambassador responsible for me being able to attend Saint Mary's, and from the thought provoking discussions with my roommate to putting Post-Its on the senior class president's car.

So what happens now after all is said and done?

For those who depart this year, a new chapter has opened in our lives to make a difference in the world, but not by simply accepting the status quo, but standing up for Truth and tolerating dissention.

A perfect example of this is our school's patroness, the Blessed Virgin Mary, who knew that much can happen in "a blink of an eye."

Her Fiat-Her Yes to an angel, led her on a wild ride in "a blink of an eye," so too for us who's futures lay ahead, let us together take that leap of faith into the unknown.
