The Gael Award is awarded to the athlete who embodies the meaning of a true student-athlete. He excels in his sport, in the classroom, and is involved in the community.

Senior Eric Cattoni is a pre-med student, who despite his busy baseball schedule, manages to maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking courses, such as chemistry, calculus, and physics. This year, he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

On the field, outfielder Cattoni is batting a .344 average and is also sixth all-time at Saint Mary's in stolen bases after only playing for two years.

In the local community, Cattoni is a resident advisor (RA) for Augustine Hall. He also serves as a volunteer at the Concord Youth Center and at youth baseball camps in Moraga.

Recently, Cattoni made it to the top 10 nominees in the nation for the Lowe's Senior Class Award.

"I don't think it is ever easy to receive good grades...But I think I have excelled in the classroom because I enjoy learning. I put as much into the books as I do baseball- I am diligent about it."
