Allie Weiner '10 scored two goals this weekend to push her season total to three.

The Gaels played host for the Saint Mary's College Fall Soccer Classic and played Vermont to a 1-1 tie and lost a heartbreaker to CSU Bakersfield 2-1. Saint Mary's were firing on all cylinders as they took a total of 47 shots, 29 on goal, in the two games but were only able to put two goals into the net.

Saint Mary's took their first lead against Vermont in the 39th minute when sophomore Allie Weiner one-timed a Marina Baham '09 pass over the arms of Vermont goalkeeper Eliza Bradley for the score.

They would hold the lead until the 76th minute when Vermont midfielder Eileen Cirilli looped a ball over freshman Gael goalkeeper Tara Larson's head. After this goal, Larson proceeded to make three amazing saves to preserve the tie. Two of the three saves came in the same sequence when Larson tipped the ball away and saved a ricochet off the goal post.

The Gaels out shot Vermont 25-10 on the day, 18-8 on goal. Seven of the Gaels' shots came within the final 10 minutes of the second overtime period. In two overtime periods, Vermont took only one shot.

Larson finished with seven saves whereas Vermont's Bradley finished with 17 saves.

On Sunday, the Gaels lost a tightly fought game as Bakersfield took only four shots on goal and walked away with a 2-1 victory. Saint Mary's came out in a fury as they rolled off 10 shots within the first 15 minutes of the contest.

In the 34th minute, Bakersfield's Alexa Vickroy intercepted a backwards pass from a Saint Mary's defender and knocked in the game's first goal by Larson. They went into the half with a 1-0 score.

Saint Mary's controlled the ball much of the first half, keeping it inside of Bakersfield territory. They out shot the Roadrunners 11-4 in the first half but were unable to put one through.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, Weiner evened the score with a one-timer past Bakersfield goalkeeper Nicole Padilla. Padilla finished the game with 10 saves.

Vickroy scored again on set play off of a free kick in the 64th minute. Bakersfield played keep-away the rest of the game.

Saint Mary's out shot Bakersfield 22-13, 11-4 on goal. Sophomore Jessica Menzhuber took five shots, three on goal.

After their tournament, the Gaels are 1-1-2 as they travel to Tennessee to play UAB and Vanderbilt this weekend.
